Crypto Casino Licensing in 2025: What Players Need to Know
The lack of regulation is one of the primary concerns regarding crypto gambling. However, that doesn’t mean there are no regulated crypto casinos.
In this article, the Crypto Gamba team takes a closer look at jurisdictions that, having recognised crypto gambling, issue licences to platforms offering this form of entertainment. Stay with us to discover why crypto casino licensing is important.
What Is Crypto-Friendly Gambling Licence?
In 2025, crypto gambling can’t be considered a novelty. Still, gambling with cryptocurrencies has not yet been regulated worldwide, and its legality varies heavily from one country to another. Thankfully, certain jurisdictions grant licences to operators who accept digital assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum and others for transactions and wagers.
A crypto-friendly gambling licence is a document that enables operators to run hybrid or fully crypto casinos. Such a license ensures that a casino operator complies with regulations set by the gaming authority that has issued it and industry standards. It’s essential for an operator to secure a crypto gambling license to be considered a serious player in the global market.
Top Jurisdictions for Crypto-Friendly Licensing
The truth is that there aren’t many jurisdictions that recognise gambling with crypto. Yet, those that do let licensees operate globally. Here’s an overview of the most common jurisdictions where crypto gambling platforms obtain licences.
Curacao
The most common licence you’ll see in the footer of crypto casinos is the one issued in Curacao. This jurisdiction is considered a leader in offshore gambling due to affordable licensing solutions. It’s a friendly and flexible regulatory environment, with licences that cover all kinds of gambling activities, from RNG and live casino games to sports betting and esports. Curacao is also popular among casino operators due to its low tax rates.
Curacao-licensed crypto casinos we recommend:

Anjouan
Since 2024, Anjouan licences have become increasingly popular due to several reasons. Low costs and a streamlined process with shorter approval periods draw more and more operators to the volcanic island in the southwestern Indian Ocean. At the same time, this is a jurisdiction that doesn’t require local presence, meaning that operators don’t have to register a company there or have local staff to obtain an Anjouan licence.
Anjouan-licensed crypto casinos we recommend:

120% up to $1,600 + 400 FS | Crash |

Costa Rica
This Central American country has a unique approach to online and crypto gambling. It doesn’t issue iGaming licences like other jurisdictions. Instead, an operator must register a company whose business purpose is data processing in Costa Rica. Therefore, gambling services are considered data processing, and the operator is permitted to offer them outside the country without incurring licensing fees. The tax regime is also flexible, as no taxes apply to revenue from operations generated outside the country.
This comes with a few risks for players, as there is no dedicated regulatory body overseeing the operations of Costa Rican online casinos. In other words, there are no authorities to turn to if any issues arise.
Costa Rica-licensed crypto casinos we recommend:
Casino | Welcome Bonus | Most Popular Game | Payment Methods | |
|
100% up to 1 BTC | Crash |

|
100% up to $10,000 | Cross the Road |

Isle of Man
Although it has been a crypto-friendly jurisdiction since 2017, the Isle of Man is not particularly popular among casino operators. Some of the reasons include stricter compliance requirements, higher setup and operational costs and longer licensing procedures. At the same time, its regulations don’t allow anonymous gambling, so DeFi casinos can’t operate under such a licence.
Malta
As an EU member state, Malta has an excellent reputation as a jurisdiction that issues licences for both traditional and cryptocurrency casinos. Still, obtaining a licence from the Malta Gaming Authority is expensive, as well as maintaining it. Additionally, regulations are stricter, so just like the Isle of Man, Malta is not a suitable jurisdiction for operators who want to offer crypto gambling with anonymous or pseudonymous transactions.
Latest Developments in Crypto Casino Licensing
In December 2024, one of the biggest crypto platforms, BC.Game, announced its decision to exit Curacao, describing it as an “increasingly hostile” operating environment. Without getting into details, the aftermath is that the operator today holds an Anjouan licence.
All of a sudden, more and more crypto casinos licensed in Anjouan emerge. Some may rightfully ask why Anjouan gains popularity among crypto casino operators. The truth is that the jurisdiction offers more flexible rules, rapid licensing and considerably lower costs than its crypto-friendly counterparts. A corporate tax rate is non-existent, which is another plus. Still, Anjouan doesn’t compromise on quality, so all the requirements, from AML compliance to anti-fraud measures and player protection, are in place for operators to meet.
Why Players Should Care?
For the time being, we’ll have to rely on offshore crypto casinos since no local authorities recognise crypto gambling or issue licenses to operators who accept digital assets. Therefore, we can choose from only a few options: Curacao, Anjouan or Costa Rica. As a player, you can’t go wrong with any of these. However, the first two are considered more reliable due to mechanisms that guarantee player protection.
When it comes to Curacao and Anjouan, both jurisdictions have gaming bodies and provide help in case you have a dispute with a casino holding their licences. You can report a concern or initiate a dispute resolution process, and the authority will do its best to ensure that you are taken care of.
At the same time, these casinos must offer responsible gaming tools, such as limits and self-exclusion, thereby protecting players from problem gambling. To comply with regulations, operators must ensure that players understand that crypto gambling should be a source of entertainment, not income.
