PSG vs Inter Miami: Tips, Odds, and Match Preview

Miami FC, a host member of the 2025 Club World Cup, locks horns with reigning European champions PSG at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this Sunday for a round-of-16 knockout match. More than anything, the game marks Messi's first meet-up with the former club where he spent a better part of three years.

They didn't exactly part on friendly terms. Messi failed in the mission to win the UCL despite having Neymar and Mbappe as partners in attack, and PSG fans let him know that they weren't happy with his performances. They even booed the World Cup winner in his final club appearance.

PSG in Cruise Control

The European champions cruised through the group stages and, despite an unexpected loss to Botafogo in round 2, finished top of Group B.

The table may not support this statement. After all, three clubs crossed the finish line with six points and were separated by goal difference. But going through was never really in doubt for Les Parisiens, not after that 4:0 thrashing of Atletico Madrid on match day one.

The blip against Botafoto was just that—a blip—and Luis Enrique's men quickly returned to winning ways to defeat Seattle Sounders 2:0. With a +6 goal difference, PSG was by far the best-performing team in the group.

PSG Injury & Suspension News

Ousmane Dembele remains the only doubt for Luis Enrique. The French International and Ballon d'Or favourite is nursing a hamstring injury that saw him sidelined since the opening of the tournament.

The Messi Magic

Inter Miami came out of Group A as runners-up—level on points with the top-spot Palmeiras. The Herons have two heroes to thank. Goalkeeper Óscar Ustari pulled save after save to keep the game 0:0 in the tour opener against Al Ahly. But then, and perhaps more importantly, Lionel Messi scored a worldie from a free kick to turn the scoreline around in a historic clash against Porto.

Javier Mascherano's men will be slightly disappointed for letting a 2:0 lead against Palmeiras slip their fingers in the concluding game of the group stage, a draw which sends Messi and the crew on a crash course to PSG rather than Botafogo. But you have to beat whatever's in front to win the tournament, don't you?

Inter Miami & Suspension News

Jordi Alba is a doubt following his muscular injury picked up against Charlotte FC in May. Other than that, Mascherano has no injury or suspension worries.

PSG vs Inter Miami Prediction

Messi's reunion with PSG makes for a nice story backdrop that probably won't spill over onto the pitch. Miami's end-to-end affair against Palmeiras was a one-off, and I don't expect Mascherano to open up to PSG's mighty flanks.

But honestly, whatever he does, Les Parisiens are just too good at this point in time, and not just for Inter Miami. The MLS side just happens to be there.
