Liverpool vs Man Utd: Tips, Odds, and Match Preview

Super Sunday delivers the biggest fixture in English football, as two of the country’s most decorated clubs go head to head on Anfield Road.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Premier League Match Preview Banner

Liverpool will be aiming to get one over on their perennial rivals, but come into the clash on the back of three consecutive defeats.

Manchester United, meanwhile, arrives at Merseyside with little in the way of expectations, having struggled for consistency all season long.

Slot’s Second Season

After a glowing start of the campaign, Arne Slot’s new-look Liverpool lost three games in a row, two of them coming from Premier League opposition. The cracks started to show early, but Liverpool’s champion pedigree papered them over with winning goals scored late in games against Bournemouth, Newcastle, Burnley, and Arsenal.

But, as they come to realize in the Palace and Chelsea games, injury-time goals can be a double-edged sword. Losing both, Liverpool also lost the top league spot to Arsenal and now welcomes Man United with a must-win chip on their shoulders.

On top of that, the big-money signings in Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Milos Kerkez have yet to kick the ground running.

Liverpool Injury & Suspension News

Goalkeeper Alisson is still a major doubt for Liverpool, as is defender Ibrahima Konate, who returned early from the French international camp. Wataru Endo did not even travel for Japan's duties, and DM Ryan Gravenberch was substituted for precautionary reasons by the Dutch.  Summer recruit Giovanni Leoni is out with an ACL.

Amorim’s Second Season

Amorim’s second season hasn’t started brightly, either. The Red Devils are all over the place result-wise, losing to the likes of Man City and Arsenal, beating the Sunderlands of the world, and drawing one away at Fulham.

Speaking of the away form, Amorim’s side is without an away win since March, and the last time they won at Anfield was almost 10 years ago.

The team seems overreliant on the skipper Bruno Fernandes and two new summer signings, Bryan Mbeumo and Mateus Cunha. However, despite early flares, neither really set the league on fire. Man UTD are 10th in the league heading into the game, sandwiched between bitter foes Sunderland and Newcastle.

Man United Injury & Suspension News

Noussair Mazraoui hasn’t featured in the last two games for Man UTD but is expected to take some part in this one. His partner in defence, Lisandro Martinez, continues to be sidelined with a knee injury.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Prediction

Both teams have shown frailties, but this game is only Liverpool’s to lose. The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways, and what better occasion than the perennial rivals?

And yet, despite the poor outlook, Amorim’s Man United usually steps it up in big games, especially when a counterattack is their only option.

Still, I’m in the Liverpool camp for this one.
