Liverpool vs Arsenal: Tips, Odds, and Match Preview
Liverpool and Arsenal will clash in a genuine showdown of giants in the Premier League on Sunday. Both teams have opened the season with perfect starts and seem to be in midseason form already when it comes to their attack.
However, Liverpool have shown cracks on the defensive end. Can the Gunners take advantage of those opportunities to pull the upset in Anfield despite being depleted and missing some of their best players?
Liverpool to Keep Perfect Start Alive?
The Reds have opened the 2025-26 league campaign with two exciting wins that were decided in the final minutes. Arne Slot’s men had to wait until the 89th minute to defeat Bournemouth at home in the opener despite opening a 2-0 lead, and they would end up securing a 4-2 victory. Something similar happened against Newcastle, where they jumped to a 2-0 lead, allowed their rivals to even things up and scored the winner in stoppage time.
With seven goals scored in only two matches, Liverpool seem to be trending in the right direction. However, the concentration mistakes on the defensive end, and the ease with which opponents score, are certainly a concern for Slot. At the very least, it seems this could be an open game. Their two matches have seen both sides scoring and over 3.5 total goals. That outcome has also happened in the previous three H2H matches between these two sides in the Premier League.
Liverpool Injury & Suspension News
Jeremie Frimpong is out with a hamstring injury and won’t be ready to return until after the international break. Alexis Mac Allister is questionable to play, as he missed the previous win over Newcastle due to the impending birth of his child. Stefan Bajcetic is also out since he’s expected to leave on loan before the end of the transfer window.
Gunners Looking to Pull the Upset in Anfield
The Gunners will do everything in their power to pull the upset in Anfield, and after scoring six goals in the first two games – while defeating Manchester United and Leeds United – they certainly have the firepower to do so. The biggest question is whether Mikel Arteta’s men can produce effectively without their two playmakers available. The absence of Saka and the likely absence of Odegaard should significantly limit Arsenal’s creativity.
The Gunners can rely on their defense to get the job done, though. They’ve yet to concede goals despite weathering the storm against Manchester United and after breezing past Leeds United. But make no mistake. To get a good result here, they can’t simply wait for Liverpool to waste chances again and again. Given that Arsenal are by no means a defensive side, and that they’ve netted at least one goal against Liverpool in each of their last six EPL meetings, they should be able to score here as well.
Arsenal Injury & Suspension News
Arsenal will be without their best player, as Bukayo Saka is out with a hamstring injury. At the same time, Martin Odegaard is questionable after sustaining a shoulder problem in the win over Leeds. Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Christian Norgaard are sidelined as well.
Liverpool vs Arsenal Prediction
On one hand, Liverpool has enough power on offense to make even the strongest defensive line in the world look vulnerable. On the other hand, the Reds have been atrocious defensively, and Arsenal still have the likes of Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli and Viktor Gyokeres on offense, so they have a strong attack even if they’re missing key pieces. Expect both teams to find the back of the net in this one.
