Bayern Munich vs Tottenham: Tips, Odds, and Match Preview
In the penultimate warm-up game before the season openers, Bayern Munich welcomes the Spurs at the Allianz Arena.
Both the Bavarians and Tottenham have high hopes for the upcoming season, having won major honors last term and bolstered their respective squads in key areas of the pitch.
Bayern Munich Looking Homeward
The Bavarians round off their busy summer, marked by a quarter-final exit in the Club World Cup and that awful injury to star man Jamal Musiala, with a tie against Tottenham before travelling to Grasshoppers for the final test ahead of the Super Cup Stuttgart challenge.
Vincent Company’s side had only one preseason game after losing to PSG in the Club World Cup. The 2:1 win over Lyon saw the new man Luis Diaz debut for the club, as Michael Olise bagged both for the German giants.
Nevertheless, the Bavarians remember Tottenham with fondness, having beaten them twice in the last summer friendlies and twice in the 2019/20 Champions League group stages. Yes, including that 7:2 thrashing at the good old White Heart Lane.
Bayern Munich Injury & Suspension News
The star man Jamal Musiala suffered a horrific injury in the Club World Cup that will keep him out of action for some time. Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, and Aleksandar Pavlović are also set to miss the tie.
New-Look Tottenham
The Spurs also have high hopes for the season, fresh off winning the Europa League – their first trophy in 17 years. But even the historical success wasn’t enough for ex-manager Ange Postecoglou to stay in the hot seat. Finishing 17th in the Premier League was unpardonable, so the Spurs enter the term with the new man, Thomas Frank, at the helm.
He’s already earned the affection of the fans, having beaten the bitter rivals Arsenal, albeit in a preseason friendly. The other three preseason games did less to enthuse the fans, ending in draws against, frankly, lesser opposition than North London rivals. On the squad front, the final tests against Bayern and PSG are an opportunity to learn a life without club captain Son Heung-min, who’s leaving the club after a decade of service.
Tottenham Injury & Suspension News
James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Radu Dragusin are all out for Spurs. On a more positive note, João Palhinha has completed his loan move from Bayern to Spurs and is all set to face his official club in a new shirt.
Bayern Munich vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
If there’s one figure besides Palhinha that connects the two clubs, it’s Harry Kane. The English striker is Tottenham’s highest scorer, and has been bagging goals since he joined the Bavarians in 2023 for the record signing in Bundesliga history.
While I do think he’ll score on Thursday, it’s never wise to bet on players in friendlies, as they likely won't play the full 90. Instead, I’m backing the Bavarians, based on the head-to-head history and, to a much smaller extent, their preseason form.
