Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig: Tips, Odds, and Match Preview

The 2025-26 season in the Bundesliga will kick off on Friday with a thrilling matchup at Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich, who won the 2024-25 Bundesliga in the first year of Vincent Kompany as manager, will try to open their title defence on a note when facing RB Leipzig in front of their fans in Munich.

Bayern Munich will have the dangerous trio of Luis Díaz, Harry Kane and Michael Olise leading the way, so they should be one of the most dangerous attacks in the league and should generate havoc on opposing defenses. Leipzig parted ways with Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United, but they should have enough quality to compete against Die Roten. Still, Bayern should be the clear odds-on favorite here.

Bayern Munich opening the season on a strong note?

Bayern Munich should maintain most of their core group for the new season, and that’s certainly good news for Vincent Kompany. The Bundesliga giants reached the quarterfinals in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and despite not having a lot of preseason duty, they should be in top form for the start of the new season after winning their four matches since the end of the summer tournament, including last Saturday's Super Cup final against Stuttgart (1:2).

The team wasn’t particularly active on the transfer market, but they replaced quantity with quality. Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman left the club to play in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but Bayern replaced them with Luis Díaz, who spent the 2024-25 season as a core piece in the EPL-winning Liverpool squad.

Bayern Munich Injury & Suspension News

Bayern Munich won’t be at full strength for Friday’s opener. Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies are long-term absences, and neither is expected back until October or November at the earliest. Defenders Hiroki Ito and Aleksandar Pavlovic are injured as well and won’t be available for this campaign opener. Konrad Laimer is a heavy doubt and should be a game-time decision for Friday.

Where do RB Leipzig go from here?

Similar to Bayern Munich, Leipzig also lost key pieces in the summer, though in their case, the departure was Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United. However, Leipzig responded by adding several young players to their project, notably signing Yan Diomande and Johan Bakayoko. Bakayoko should be an absolute star in the Bundesliga.

Leipzig opened their competitive season with a 4-2 road win over Sandhausen in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. However, their W3, L2 record in the preseason wasn’t exciting by any means. With injuries and new signings left to integrate into the squad, it’s clear that Leipzig will have a tough time dealing with a red-hot Bayern Munich in their first league contest of the 2025/26 campaign.

RB Leipzig Injury & Suspension News

Even though Leipzig won’t be as decimated as Bayern from an injury perspective, it’s fair to say they won’t be at full strength due to some absences. Andrija Maksimovic is out due to a strain, while Amadou Haidara and Lukas Klostermann are also sidelined. Benjamin Henrichs, another projected start, will be sidelined as well due to being a long-term absentee with an Achilles problem.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig Prediction

This is going to be a back-and-forth match, but there’s no question that Bayern Munich are going to be the dominant force right from the get-go. Even though Leipzig might have enough in them to score a goal due to the presence of elite attacking talent such as Loïs Openda and Xavi Simons, Bayern should have enough in them to secure the victory.

The odds on Bayern Munich winning are slim, so instead, we’ll go with a goalscoring target. The over on 3.5 total goals has hit in four of their last six H2H meetings at Allianz Arena, and each of those six games has had at least three total goals. Expect that trend to continue here.
