Martin Odegaard is a heavy doubt due to a shoulder injury, and the Norwegian playmaker is not expected to be available. However, manager Pep Guardiola used the international break to rediscover the team’s best form, and it seems the approach has worked wonderfully.

After defeating Manchester United by a 3-0 score in their previous EPL match, the Cityzens opened their UCL campaign with a solid 2-0 win over Napoli at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland scored the opening goal in both matches, and the Norwegian has been on a tear to open the campaign. If he’s playing well, and if City are creating enough chances, very few teams in the world can stop them. Arsenal will have to limit Haaland’s influence to have a shot here, but all signs point to City getting in a groove of late. When that happens, they’re almost unstoppable.

Two of Manchester City’s new signings won’t be available for this clash since Rayan Cherki (thigh) and Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle) have been ruled out. Omar Marmoush (knee), Kalvin Phillips (Achilles), Mateo Kovacic (Achilles) and John Stones (muscular) are also out. With all these injuries, expect Manchester City to field a very similar to what they’ve lined up in their previous two wins.

It’s easy to imagine this game being a goalfest considering the amount of talent available on both sides of the ball. However, Arsenal will be without their two best players in Saka and Odegaard, while City are thin in terms of overall depth. Plus, tired legs could also be an issue since both clubs played in the Champions League earlier this week.

Based on how Arsenal planned their matches against Manchester United and Liverpool, this should be another low-scoring game that might end with under 2.5 total goals. Three of the last five head-to-head meetings between these two sides have ended with two or fewer goals in regulation, but such wasn’t the case in the two games in the 2024-25 campaign.
